Climate Change Posters
These posters were created for a climate change campaign, designed as a series that can also stand alone when presented individually. Each subject in the front was a combination of some sort of sea creature that fused with plastic that pollutes our ocean.
The Process
I chose a video game theme and incorporated pixel art to appeal to the target audience, primarily college students, many of whom play video games. By using a familiar and engaging visual style, I aimed to capture their attention and encourage them to engage with the message, even when encountering the posters in passing.
For the first poster, I combined a plastic bag with a jellyfish. With many plastic bags looking like jellyfish, many animals are ingesting plastic bags instead.
The phrases “Game Over” and “End the Climate Crisis” help tie the posters together, along with the recurring theme of sea creatures. Each poster features a different main image and caption, allowing them to stand out individually while maintaining a cohesive visual identity as a series.
The Second Poster combines a hermit crab wearing a plastic cap as a shell. This is a common problem among our hermit crabs. Plastic caps cause poor mobility and leak toxic chemicals due to the hot sun.
Lastly, this poster represents the widely recognized phrase “Save the Turtles.” The imagery combines a turtle with a six-pack ring in place of its shell, symbolizing the harmful effects of plastic pollution on marine life. Turtles are among the many species threatened by human activity and environmental changes.
From a design perspective, this visual metaphor creates an immediate connection between a familiar phrase and a recognizable environmental issue, allowing the message to be communicated in a simple yet impactful way.
